Sculling Skiff
Designed by Glen-L Marine
A 17 ft 2 in recreational rowing shell from Glen-L Marine, built by stitch and glue from two sheets of 4 mm plywood. The prototype weighed 39 lb, so it competes with production shells for weight at a fraction of the price. The plans include full-size patterns for a home-built sliding seat and riggers as well as the hull.
They put the usual load at 1 people. The hull is a vee-bottom for 4mm sheet plywood Stitch and Glue construction. For power they specify high performance spoon-shaped sculling oars, with riggers and sliding seat. They draw a matching trailer for her. Because the panels are so thin, this is a delicate build rather than a hard one; a careful beginner can do it with a minimum of tools. Expect roughly 60 to 120 hours for the hull and seat. Glen-L sells stitch-and-glue, fiberglass and sliding-seat hardware kits. Real build times from logs are below.

Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
