Designed by Sam Devlin
A 38 ft 4 in ketch-rigged cruising sailboat by Sam Devlin, drawn for his stitch and glue method. It is one of his fantail-stern hulls, with the ketch rig chosen so a short-handed crew can manage the sails easily. Beam is 12 ft, draft 52 in and displacement 22,400 lb, with a 15 hp inboard diesel listed as auxiliary power.
The Devlin shop sells downloadable study plans only and invites buyers to contact Sam Devlin to have the design developed, so full construction drawings would have to be commissioned. A heavy cruising boat of this size is a project for an experienced builder. As a rule of thumb, expect 6,000 hours or more spread over several years. Real hours from logged builds are below.
