Scout 20
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 20 ft 2 in outboard pocket cruiser whose hull was drawn by its owner, John Carlson of Washington State, and converted to stitch and glue by Sam Devlin, whose shop launched it in 2009. Beam is 8 ft, draft 15 in, displacement 2,985 lb, and a 90 hp Yamaha gave 27 mph flat out with an 18 to 20 mph cruise. The cabin has two bunks, a galley with pressure water, a wood stove and sitting headroom.
The page offers it as a custom build and says homebuilder plans were being worked on, so ask Devlin whether they exist. As a rule of thumb, a cabin boat like this takes 1,000 to 1,600 hours. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Scout 20 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.

If you are building one, yours becomes the reference: the page the next person building this boat finds when they search for it. One photo and one line is a valid first entry.
