Mini Vee
Designed by Bob Dillon
An 11 ft 11 in v-bottom raceboat for the APBA Sportsman classes Mini GT and GT Pro, and according to its designer the only home-built boat approved for Mini GT racing. With a 35 hp Johnson or Evinrude and a lightly modified stock propeller it has run close to 47 mph, and Dillon clocked 50 mph in a quick test with a 40 hp Nissan.
The hull is 60 in wide and weighs about 180 lb, with a limit of 40 hp and 130 lb at the drawn length. Its simple shape lends itself to stretching for heavier three-cylinder motors, and the plans and construction notes now cover how to do that, though Dillon says the longer versions are untested. Options for two engine setbacks, two coaming heights and an 18 in or 20 in cockpit are all included. A good entry point for anyone wanting to build and race a small vee.
What building a Mini Vee actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
