Sentinel Challenger 13

A 13 ft 1 in (4.0 m) lapstrake plywood sailing dinghy by Dudley Dix, listed on his site as the Challenger 13. It was conceived as a smaller sister to the Explorer built by Sentinel Boats in Cape Town, which later produced it in fiberglass at 14 ft. It can be rowed, motored with up to 8 hp, or sailed under a balanced lug with jib, 95 sq ft in all. It has a flat planing run, buoyancy in the thwarts and weighs about 100 kg.
The plywood is glued with epoxy in traditional lapstrake form. The designer calls it more challenging than stitch and glue and a good step toward bigger projects. Budget 200 to 350 hours. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
