Fafnir exists because a customer wanted a very small bluewater yacht to attempt a non-stop circumnavigation in, and asked for 10 ft. Welsford worked the route, the current assist, the weather windows and the stores consumption, concluded it could not be done at that length, and drew this instead. The problems he lists for a boat this size are the interesting part: fitting a skipper in with enough sitting and lying positions, somewhere fixed for the cooker, every remaining space given to stores, and stability, trim as the skipper moves, visibility from each steering position and security through a knockdown and a rollover all settled before the sailing qualities are even considered.
