Blivit 13
Designed by Platt Monfort
The Blivit 13 is a sailing dinghy built around a simple, adjustable rig. The mast steps into a loose socket that works like a universal joint, and the rigging wire ends in Dacron lanyards tied off to the gunwales, which does away with chainplates altogether.
The hull has a hard chined plywood bottom, which is fairly easy except at the forefoot: that takes a hard twist for a fine entry and is laminated from two layers of 1/8 in ply. The prototype used lauan underlayment, but Monfort now recommends marine okoume. The frames and gunwales are many small, simple parts. Strongly flared topsides and a reverse sheer make it dry with plenty of reserve stability, and the cockpit seats four medium sized people.
What building a Blivit 13 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
