Black Fly 8

Designed by Platt Monfort

An 8 ft Nordic style pram meant as a yacht tender that can also sail. Unlike the all fabric hulls in the range, it has a vee bottom section in plywood, which stiffens the hull and gives some abrasion resistance for landing on rocky beaches. Above that, four geodesic chines carry the Dacron skin and give the boat a lapstrake look.

The Dacron goes on in one piece and is bonded to the plywood with a tough finish. One unusual detail is an optional flotation seat cushion made of expedition nylon that zips open as a waterproof dry bag. It suits a cruising sailor who wants a light dinghy that can be hauled aboard and still be fun to sail in a harbor.
