Amphora
Designed by Michael Stevenson
The oldest design in the range and the one with the best story behind it. The Amphora was drawn around 1973 as a project for young people, and appeared in Peter and Mike Stevenson's book of the same name, whose subject was underwater exploration. The photograph the company still uses was taken carrying her down the rocks to La Jolla Cove to launch her through the surge.
The plans have since been redrawn from the book with the dimensions and techniques changed to reflect forty years of building since, so this is a new plan set rather than a reissue. She is a small plywood rowing boat, simple enough for a complete beginner of any age, and a genuinely good rower: light, straight-tracking and content to keep her way.
