Ady-J
Designed by Grandpa's Archive
Ady-J is an all-purpose plywood dinghy meant to be car topped by one person, from an old magazine. The article pitches it to hunters and fishermen and to families, noting that it rides high and level, rows or sculls easily in shallow backwaters and has a 25 in skeg to hold a course under an outboard.
It is assembled almost entirely on a building board: two full frames reinforced with plywood knees, three half frames, the stem and transom, joined by chines and sheer battens that carry 1/4 in plywood bottom and sides. The photographs show it carried on a car roof and running with a small motor. The archive files it as an 8 footer.
What building a Ady-J actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
