Crayfish 8
Designed by Richard Woods
A 2.4 m (8 ft) pram-bowed yacht tender by Richard Woods of Woods Designs, stitched and glued from two and a half sheets of 4 mm plywood. It weighs roughly 20 kg, carries three adults, and can be rowed, fitted with a small sail, or pushed by an outboard of up to 2.5 hp. Light enough to car top or haul aboard a cruising boat without davits.
Woods presents it as a good warm-up before a bigger project, but the low-cost plans give only panel sizes, layout and sail plan with no instructions, so some familiarity with stitch and glue is assumed. One builder had hers afloat a week after lofting. Budget 30 to 60 hours. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Crayfish 8 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
