SnowShoe 14
Designed by Platt Monfort
A 14 ft open canoe for two average adults and a cooler, and probably the most general purpose boat in the SnowShoe series. The standard keel has rocker for maneuvering and a seaworthy feel, but the plans show a simple change to a straight keel for anyone who would rather have speed and straight tracking. Its light weight is the main selling point: it can be on the water within a minute of deciding to go.
The hull shape became the basis of the Snowshoe Explorer 14, and the SnowShoe 16 is its enlarged sibling. It is built the Geodesic Airolite way, with a frame of slender wooden longitudinals over stations, Kevlar roving run diagonally for stiffness, and a heat shrunk polyester skin bonded on with transfer tape and sealed.
What building a SnowShoe 14 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
