Snowshoe Explorer 14

For paddlers who liked the SnowShoe 14 but wanted something tougher for rough water and heavier loads. The Explorer keeps the same high performance lines, so it should track and run much like the original, but it adds the truss gunwale structure Monfort used on his Classic rowing and sailing boats.
That truss costs a little weight and some extra building time, and in return the hull is considerably stiffer and sturdier. It makes sense for anyone planning longer trips with gear aboard or more exposed water than the standard 14 was drawn for. The frame is wood, braced diagonally with Kevlar and skinned in heat shrink polyester, and plans plus a partial kit of skin, roving, epoxy and tape are available.
