Snowshoe Traveler 18
Designed by Platt Monfort
The biggest canoe in the Geodesic Airolite catalog, intended for wilderness tripping with a large load. It is the SnowShoe 16 lengthened to 18 ft, giving a high volume hull with modest rocker that the designer describes as easy going, seaworthy and a good tracker.
It borrows the truss gunwale of the Classic series, and the result is stiff enough that Monfort says it could be used without its center thwart, which is there mainly for carrying. Construction follows the usual method: a wooden frame braced with Kevlar roving and covered in heat shrink polyester. For a builder who wants a light tripping canoe to portage between lakes, this is the one to look at in the range.
What building a Snowshoe Traveler 18 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
