Driftboat 16s

A 16 ft McKenzie and Rogue River style fishing dory from Glen-L Marine, drawn for whitewater rivers and, unusually, for first-time builders. The hull is frame-free plywood on stress-skin principles, so there are no ribs to fit; the side trays and the decked bow and stern compartments supply the stiffness instead. The plans show adjustable seats, knee locks and an optional outboard up to 10 hp.
A good first big project. No lofting, no framing, and Glen-L supplies full-size patterns for the panel shapes. A beginner should budget roughly 150 to 300 hours, which for most people is one off-season. Fiberglass and fastening kits are sold alongside the plans.
