Sea Kayak
Designed by Glen-L Marine
A 17 ft single touring kayak from Glen-L Marine, stitch and glue in 4 mm or quarter-inch plywood, 24 in beam, 40 to 70 lb depending on materials. It carries camping gear, takes a spray skirt, and three sheets of plywood build the whole boat. Every part including the planking and decking is supplied as a full-size pattern, and plans for a stitch-and-glue paddle are in the package.
They put the usual load at 1 people. The hull is a single chine, developed for 4mm or 1/4" sheet plywood, Stitch-N-Glue construction. They draw a matching trailer for her. Glen-L calls it a boat almost anyone can build, and that is fair: saw to the pattern lines, drill the marked stitch holes, wire, fillet and tape. Allow 60 to 120 hours. Stitch-and-glue and fiberglass kits are sold for it. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Sea Kayak actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
