Handy Andy

Designed by Grandpa's Archive

Handy Andy is a 10 ft folding boat for campers, hunters and fishermen who need a boat where a rigid one cannot be carried. It has a 42 in beam, 15 in depth amidships and a flat bottom, weighs 80 lb and carries three. The article says it folds or unfolds in about a minute into a flat bundle that will ride in a car, a house trailer or a light plane, or tuck under one arm.

The hull is 3/8 in marine plywood over shape forms, two identical side panels and two bottom panels with canvas binding along the edges where it folds, and a 3/4 in plywood transom, seat and center section. It rows or takes outboards of 1 to 5 hp, and was also suggested as a tender for yachts with no room for a towed dinghy.
