Jon Boat
Designed by Grandpa's Archive
This is a later magazine printing of the same 12 ft square-ended skiff, with the same Statement of Uses: 5 ft beam, 110 lb, room for three to five adults and outboards of 1 to 6 hp. It is a historical flat-bottomed type, framed in wood and skinned in AC exterior plywood, and was sold to readers as a light car-top boat for rivers and marshes.
The text in this version spells out a few details the other scan does not: framing glued and fastened to the poor side of the plywood with ringed nails slanted for grip, a 3/4 in motor board on the transom, and an iron bar used as a dolly while nailing. Builders comparing the two scans may find it useful to read both.
What building a Jon Boat actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.

If you are building one, yours becomes the reference: the page the next person building this boat finds when they search for it. One photo and one line is a valid first entry.
