Designed by John Welsford
Drawn to a competition brief for a family trailer yacht of about 6 to 6.5 m that a home builder could put together from ordinary materials with simple tools. Rather than enter another hard chine box, Welsford submitted a boat with traditional character and a focus on comfort, built on the hull shape and construction of Rogue and Navigator before her. An anchor well takes the wet and muddy ground tackle, and the hatches are large enough to make her airy in hot weather.

Four berths under 1.45 m of headroom, 450 kg of ballast in a 970 kg boat, and a choice of gaff or bermudian rig at around 21 square metres. Not to be confused with the Penguin Class Dinghy, Philip Rhodes's 11 ft 5 in frostbite racer, which has a page of its own.
