Crispy 520

Designed by Cristian Pilo

A 5.2 m open planing centre-console boat by Cristian Pilo of Modern Wooden Boat for fishing, diving and day trips on a 40 to 70 hp outboard. The hull was designed from a clean sheet and not scaled from the Crispy 650, with 17.5 degrees of stern deadrise and high bow topsides to keep spray down. Beam is 2.16 m, hull weight 420 kg, and the designer calculates 31 knots with 60 hp at the 950 kg design displacement.

The structure is a grid of 12 mm plywood bulkheads, solid wood stringers and a backbone, planked with 12 mm and 10 mm plywood. Pilo calls it an entry-level project for a home builder. Budget 400 to 650 hours as a rule of thumb. Real hours from logged builds are below.
