Long Weekend
Designed by Plyboat
Long Weekend came from builders asking for a bigger Happy Hour, but it is not simply scaled up. This 3.65 m kayak has a V-shaped bottom for better tracking and handling in small waves, a slightly narrower 0.9 m beam to make it quicker, and a rising bow to keep spray out of the cockpit.
The cockpit is 2 m long, enough for two paddlers, one paddler and a large dog, or someone sleeping aboard, and with a payload of 200 kg it is meant for two or three day trips with camping and fishing gear. Two buoyancy compartments keep it afloat when loaded. It weighs about 20 kg. The hull uses three sheets of 6 mm plywood, laid out so each sheet can be ripped lengthwise at the store and carried home inside a car, and the illustrated instructions run to 38 pages.
What building a Long Weekend actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
