16' 2" Adirondack Guideboat

A 16 ft 2 in Adirondack guideboat from Newfound Woodworks, a strip-built take on the fast, light double-ended rowing boats that guides carried between lakes in upstate New York in the late 1800s. The lines derive from the Cole guideboat. About 70 lb, 37 in beam, 480 lb capacity. Cedar strips with epoxy and fiberglass replace the original planking over spruce-root ribs.
The fine ends and hollow lines make this a more demanding stripping job than a canoe, and decks, seats and oar hardware add time. Some strip experience helps; Newfound offers a rowboat Pre-Kit as a primer. As a rule of thumb, budget 250 to 400 hours. Real hours from logged builds are below.
