16' 6" Rangeley Lake Boat
Designed by Newfound Woodworks
A 16 ft 6 in version of Newfound Woodworks' strip-built Rangeley Lake boat, the Maine fishing and rowing boat the company drew from offsets in John Gardner's Building Classic Small Craft. It is made by setting the 15 ft forms at 13 in spacing instead of 12, giving a longer hull on the same 46 in beam. About 105 lb with 725 lb capacity. A plan sheet shows the revised spacing.
The work matches the 15 footer: stripping, then a transom, deck and coaming, thwarts, stern seat and oar blocks. The Pre-Kit is suggested for first-time strip builders. As a rule of thumb, budget 250 to 400 hours. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
