16' 9" Wherry Pulling/Sailing Boat

Designed by Newfound Woodworks

A 16 ft 9 in wherry for oars and sail from Newfound Woodworks, based on New England fishermen's working boats. The strip-built hull has a wide inner keelson for beaching, a skeg, a shaped transom and a hollow at the keel like the Rangeley. About 98 lb as a rowing hull, 48 in beam, 700 lb capacity. A simple sprit rig stows inside the boat; the kit is priced as a hull, with the sail package an optional extra.

A rowing hull plus daggerboard trunk, rudder and spars if the sailing option is built, so some experience is useful. As a rule of thumb, budget 300 to 450 hours for the hull and more for the rig. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
