Wooden Shoe

Designed by Nexus Marine

The Wooden Shoe is Nexus Marine's 23 ft 10 in Down East style sport cruiser, a trailerable V-bottom powered by a 160 to 220 hp sterndrive. The Seattle yard drew her as a small version of their 34 ft Odyssey, keeping that boat's smooth-riding hull form and adding a little more deadrise: 60 degrees at the bow, 24.5 under the helm and 15 at the transom. They quote a 30 knot cruise and 45 knots flat out, a dry weight with power of 3,700 lb, and 68 gallons of fuel. The name came from the first boat being built in Holland.

The hull is cold-molded throughout. The bottom is two layers of 6 mm hardwood plywood over closely spaced stringers, and the topsides are two layers of 5 mm plywood under a mahogany veneer, which Nexus point out suits someone working alone because no single piece is large. The flaring bow tapers to a tumblehome transom in the lobster-boat manner. Inside are 6 ft 8 in V-berths with sitting headroom, a galley and a head, and the cockpit is self-bailing with a sundeck over the engine. Plans are sold by Nexus Marine, with full-size Mylar patterns for the frames, molds, transom and stem available.
