Breeze

Designed by Plyboat

Breeze is a 3 m double paddle canoe and the narrowest of Plyboat's designs at 0.71 m. Alongside the usual priorities of seaworthiness, light weight and low cost, the designer added speed this time, so the hull is more streamlined and feels a little tender until the bilge panels bring in their secondary stability, after which it is as steady as any small canoe.

Two sheets of 6 mm plywood make the boat, with enough left over on the second sheet for buoyancy chambers at each end, and every part is nested on the plans. Seams are taped with glass and epoxy inside and out, and the whole hull is epoxy coated. In pine plywood it weighs around 15 kg, and okoume would save more. A long skeg keeps it tracking, and a foam cushion or a proper seat can be fitted.
