Happy Hour
Designed by Plyboat
Happy Hour is a 2.8 m fishing kayak that began with Ross Lillistone's Water Rat. Plyboat's designer swapped the bow transom for a pointed stem, added about 20 percent more volume and displacement, raised the freeboard and rearranged the seating, with fly fishermen, photographers and birdwatchers in mind. A 0.98 m beam, flat bottom and angled bilge panels make it stable enough to stand and cast, and the bilge panels soak up waves rather than letting the hull pound.
A long skeg and a runner board on the bottom help it track and stiffen the bottom. Built in exterior pine plywood it weighs around 18 kg and carries up to 120 kg, including a small child or dog. The stitch and glue hull uses two sheets of 6 mm plywood; the PDF plans include a seat and paddle.
What building a Happy Hour actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
