White Salmon Pram

Designed by Ray Klebba

Best Row Boat at the 2001 Portland Wooden Boat Show, the White Salmon Pram is an 8 ft by 4 ft strip built pram of about 50 pounds that fits in a pickup bed, inside a van, on a car roof or on the deck of a larger boat. Ray Klebba lists her uses as yacht tender, general knockabout rowing boat or fly fishing boat. She trims well with one, two or three aboard, carries up to 500 pounds, and is said to tow straight at up to five knots. A small motor can go on the transom.

She is designed for a first time builder. Plywood forms bolt to uprights on a 24 by 95 in ladder strongback, cedar strips are edge glued and stapled over them, and the staples come out once the glue sets. The outside is sanded, the skeg fitted and the hull glassed in epoxy, then she comes off the forms for interior glass, gunwales and seats. Full size plans, a basic kit and a full kit are available.
