Mirage

Designed by Richard Woods

An 11 m (36 ft) hard-chine open-deck cruising catamaran from Richard Woods of Woods Designs, developed from his Mira. Hulls in sheet plywood or GRP foam sandwich, with centreboards or optional low aspect ratio keels and a choice of rigs. Beam 5.95 m, about 3.1 tonnes empty, 55.9 sq m of sail, 2 m headroom in the hulls. The layout lets a couple live entirely in one hull and leave the other for guests. One crossed from Panama to the UK in 2010.

The page shows a builder turning a hull over single-handed. Woods's minimum is 2,300 hours to a basic fit out ready to paint for someone who knows the work, so a first-timer should budget 3,000 to 4,500. Real hours from logged builds are below.
