Saturn

Designed by Richard Woods

An 8.8 m (28 ft 10 in) hard-chine performance cruiser with a central cuddy from Richard Woods of Woods Designs, in concept an updated Surfsong or a faster Gypsy. Plywood on frames, sheathed in epoxy and glass, with flat panel hulls and single curvature decks to speed the work. Beam 5.6 m, about 1,800 kg empty, 41.7 sq m of main and genoa, an 8 to 9.9 hp outboard. Meant for coastal cruising and occasional racing; owners report 15 to 17 knots.

It can be built in sections and brought together by the water. Woods's minimum is 1,500 hours to a basic fit out ready to paint for someone who knows the work, so a first-time builder might budget 2,000 to 3,000. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
