Skoota 28

Designed by Richard Woods

An 8.5 m (27 ft 10 in) demountable power catamaran by Richard Woods of Woods Designs, a minimum liveaboard coastal cruiser for a couple. Plywood and epoxy, 4.2 m beam, about 1.8 tonnes empty, 1.9 m headroom, twin outboards of 20 to 60 hp. His own boat cruises at 10 to 12 knots on twin 20s and has covered thousands of miles from British Columbia to the Bahamas. The hulls and cabin separate to travel on a flat bed truck.

The materials list is 85 sheets of plywood and 140 kg of epoxy. Woods lists 2,000 hours as a practised builder's minimum and says his own took 2,300, so a first-timer should budget 2,500 to 4,000. Real hours from logged builds are below.
