Kalostyn
Designed by Andrew Walters
Andrew Walters drew Kalostyn as the worked example for a book on designing boats in SketchUp, deliberately giving her plenty of curves so he could show how to model them and then export frames and flattened panels. The book has not been written, but the boat was finished as a set of plans.
She is a 14 ft skiff with a 5 ft 6 in beam and a bare hull of about 310 lb, built of plywood with taped and epoxied joints. The aim was decent performance on modest power: about 15 hp moves her at the roughly 940 lb she weighs with three people, engine and gear aboard, and the transom is cut for a long shaft motor. The materials list runs to eleven sheets of plywood, a roll of glass tape and two gallons of epoxy.
What building a Kalostyn actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
