Black Brant II 14
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 14 ft duck hunting boat by Sam Devlin, 5 ft 10 in in beam, for outboards to 25 hp and about 20 mph at medium load. The motor sits in a well about 24 in forward of the stern, flanked by foam-filled sponsons, which moves the operator forward and hides the engine from birds overhead. The cockpit holds two or three hunters, a dog and up to six dozen decoys, with a 780 lb maximum load.
Devlin's own shop has built more than 60 and reports about 130 hours each, which is the designer's figure for a practised crew. A first-time stitch and glue builder should allow 150 to 250 hours. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
What building a Black Brant II 14 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
