Fast Skiff 14

Designed by Jacques Mertens

A 14 ft vee-bottom planing skiff by Jacques Mertens of Bateau, the planing version of the Flat Skiff 14. Beam is 65 in, hull weight about 185 lb, and the USCG style rating is five people or 950 lb, with 6 to 15 hp recommended and 25 hp the limit. A decked low-sheer variant, the FS14 LS, is sold separately.

Plywood cored composite, stitch and glue, planked over frames set upside down on a pair of 2x4s, with only a small bow mold to discard. It is designed for a first-time builder and teaches the same steps used on the large boats. The designer's figure is 20 hours for the hull and 40 or more for a finished boat. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
