Flat Skiff 14
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 14 ft flat-bottomed skiff by Jacques Mertens of Bateau, for oars or an outboard up to 7.5 hp. Like its 12 ft sister it is billed by the designer as probably the easiest boat to build in the catalog. Beam is 4 ft 6 in and designed weight about 110 lb. The Fast Skiff 14 is the vee-bottomed planing version, and a CNC kit is offered.
Stitch and glue plywood joined with simple butt blocks, so there are no scarfs to cut, and no woodworking skill or special tools are needed. The designer's figure is about 20 hours for the hull, so budget 30 to 60 hours with finishing and paint. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Flat Skiff 14 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
