Solo Flats Skiff (SK14)
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 14 ft hybrid solo skiff by Jacques Mertens for Bateau, part paddleboard, part canoe, part flats skiff. It is a longer and wider development of the FS13: 49.5 in of beam and about 125 lb, which the designer says costs some nimbleness in exchange for capacity and stability. It draws 2 in at 350 lb, can be poled or paddled standing, and takes an outboard of up to 8 hp. Foam under the sole makes it unsinkable.
The 6 mm okoume panels fold around frames and transom and the hull is completely fiberglassed. The designer rates it suitable for a first-time builder, especially from the precut kit, and quotes 40 hours for the hull shell. Budget 70 to 120 hours. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
