Ace 14
Designed by Arch Davis
A 14 ft 4 in daysailer by Arch Davis for a crew of two or three, with stowage compartments fore and aft big enough for camping gear on longer trips. She carries 116 sq ft of sail, weighs 215 lb, has a 5 ft 7 in beam and draws 5 in with the board up. She can be sailed singlehanded. A centerboard or a daggerboard can be fitted.
The hull is 1/4 in plywood, epoxy glued and sheathed in fiberglass, built from six sheets of drawings, full-size Mylar patterns and a step-by-step manual. The designer's figure is 170 to 200 hours to ready-to-rig for a reasonably experienced woodworker, plus 40 to 50 for a wooden mast and boom. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Ace 14 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
