Cackler 14
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 14 ft 3 in hunting skiff by Sam Devlin for rough water and long runs in cold weather. She carries two or three hunters and gear, with an 805 lb maximum load, and Devlin reports hunting her in 40 knots of wind with four men, three dogs and six dozen decoys while still planing. An outboard of around 30 hp sits in a well with six-gallon tanks either side. The Snow Goose 16 and Honker 18 are stretched versions, and a CNC-cut kit is available.
Stitch and glue, and a manageable first powerboat for a careful builder. Budget 150 to 250 hours as a rule of thumb. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
What building a Cackler 14 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
