Cat 22
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 21 ft 6 in planing power catamaran by Jacques Mertens of Bateau, the same type of hull as the Australian rescue-service cats, drawn for offshore anglers who want a stable platform with nearly full beam carried to the bow. Beam is 8 ft 3 in, displacement about 2,650 lb, and the tunnel sits 16 in clear at rest to limit slamming. It is drawn for twin outboards only, two 90 hp recommended.
Epoxy and fiberglass over plywood built on a jig, with foam sandwich specifications as an alternative. The designer says this is not a first-time project. The designer's figure is about 200 hours for the jig and hull plus 100 to 200 hours to finish. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
