A 14 ft flat-bottom garvey by Jacques Mertens, sold by Bateau / Boat Builder Central as the GF14: a jon boat, duck boat or general utility skiff. Beam is 5 ft 2 in, hull weight about 140 lb, draft 5 in and displacement 1,150 lb at the design waterline, with 15 hp recommended. The family also includes 12 ft and 16 ft versions.
Stitch and glue, with the bottom a plywood-cored glass sandwich. Most cuts are straight lines, and the designer says a first-time builder can do it. His figure is 20 hours for the hull and 40 or more finished; a first build more often takes 60 to 120. Logged build hours for this design are shown below.
