Nesting Dinghy 11

Designed by Jacques Mertens

A 10 ft 6 in two-part nesting dinghy by Jacques Mertens, sold by Bateau / Boat Builder Central as the FB11. The halves nest into a package under 6 ft long for a cruising boat's deck or a pickup bed, and are locked together by the removable centre seat and a few bolts with wing nuts. It rows well, takes the same sprit rig as the D4 and PK78, and accepts up to 4 hp. Designed weight is 70 lb.

Stitch and glue from flat panels and taped seams, with no special tools. The designer rates it easy, though the nesting joint adds work over a one-piece boat, and gives an average of 70 hours for the hull. Budget 80 to 130. Real hours from logged builds are below.
