Open Pilot 21
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 20 ft 11 in open-cockpit pilothouse boat by Jacques Mertens for Bateau / Boat Builder Central, plan OP21. It is a larger, open version of the Pilot 19, the vee-hull sister of the Harbor Master 19. Beam is 8 ft 6 in, the stripped hull weighs about 1,250 lb, fuel is two 30 gallon tanks, and power is 90 hp with 150 as the maximum.
A plywood-cored epoxy and glass composite built stitch and glue, with topsides in one wide panel per side and no scarfing. The designer says it can be a first project but suggests trying his free canoe plans first. His figure is 80 hours for the hull and 300 or more finished. Budget 500 to 800. Logged build hours for this design are shown below.
What building a Open Pilot 21 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
