Pilot 21
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 20 ft 11 in pilothouse outboard boat by Jacques Mertens for Bateau, the larger sister of the Pilot 19. The moderate vee hull runs from 45 degrees of deadrise at the cutwater to 10 degrees at the transom, chosen to ride smoothly without the roll of a deep vee. The pilothouse has 6 ft of headroom and the cuddy holds a 7 ft 4 in vee berth. Beam is 8 ft 6 in, fuel two 30 gallon tanks, and power 90 to 150 hp.
The designer says it can be a first build. Published figures are 80 hours for the hull and 300 hours or more to finish; budget 350 to 600. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Pilot 21 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
