Pixie 14

Designed by Richard Woods

A 4.3 m (14 ft 2 in) car-toppable beach catamaran designed by Richard Woods of Woods Designs, also sold by Bateau. First sailed in 1981, it has sold in the hundreds, often to Scout groups and schools. The rounded vee hulls need no daggerboards, each hull weighs about 45 lb, and slot-together beams let the boat be assembled and rigged in about 15 minutes. Beam is 2.1 m, empty weight 170 lb, sail area 124 sq ft, for one or two crew.

Construction is stitch and glue from 4 mm plywood, and the designer pitches it at people new to both boatbuilding and catamarans. The study plans give a build time of about 80 hours; a first-timer might budget 80 to 150. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
