Pontoon Cat (PC22)

A 22 ft version of the Bateau Pontoon Cat, an outboard power catamaran by Jacques Mertens that replaces aluminum pontoon tubes with two efficient asymmetric hulls. Built in plywood-cored epoxy and fiberglass composite, it suits day cruising, protected-water fishing and entertaining. Standard beam is 8 ft 6 in, adjustable at build time up to 10 ft. It displaces 2,300 lb at 8 in of draft and takes 10 to 75 hp. Several deck layouts are drawn.
The hulls, cross beams and engine pod are built separately and then joined under a deck. The designer says a first-time builder can do it, ideally after a small canoe, and quotes 200 hours for the hull shells and 300 to 800 hours for a finished boat. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
