Pontoon Cat (PC24)

Designed by Jacques Mertens

The 24 ft, largest member of the Bateau Pontoon Cat family by Jacques Mertens: an outboard power catamaran on two fine asymmetric hulls in place of aluminum tubes. Construction is plywood-cored epoxy and fiberglass composite. Standard beam is 8 ft 6 in, optionally up to 10 ft; displacement is 2,500 lb at 8 in of draft, and power 10 to 75 hp. The study plans report 13 knots from a 15 hp outboard.

It is built in modules: hulls, cross beams, engine pod, then the deck. Parts have straight edges and easy bends, so the designer considers it open to a first-time builder. The designer's figures are 200 hours for the hull shells and 300 to 800 hours finished. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
