A 14 ft classic outboard runabout by Jacques Mertens for Bateau, the middle boat of a trio reworked from a 1950s do-it-yourself magazine design called Victory for epoxy, fiberglass and plywood composite. Beam is 4 ft 9 in and hull weight 160 to 200 lb. Recommended power is 10 to 35 hp on a 15 or 20 in shaft; the designer says it planes with 15 hp and one aboard but feels better with 25.
Built upside down on a jig formed by the frames and stringers. The designer does not recommend it for a first-time builder. The designer's estimate is about 40 hours to assemble jig and hull and 100 to 200 more to finish, so budget 140 to 240 hours. Real hours from logged builds are below.
