Vagabond Plus 20

Designed by Jacques Mertens

A 19 ft 8 in four-berth trailerable coastal cruiser by Jacques Mertens for Bateau, recommended by the designer as a first cruising boat for a couple with two children, or for club racing. It comes as a centerboarder drawing 18 in, or with a 3 ft 4 in fin keel. Beam is 7 ft 7 in, ballast 550 lb, displacement 2,350 lb, trailer weight 1,500 lb and sail area 200 sq ft.

The hull is 1/4 in plywood between layers of biaxial glass, assembled stitch and glue with no scarfing. The designer calls it easy to build. Designer's figures: about 250 hours for hull and deck plus 150 to finish. Budget 400 to 700. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
