Lichen 20
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 19 ft 7 in gaff-rigged pocket cruiser by Sam Devlin, built stitch and glue, with a vee-bottomed pram-bowed hull that measures 26 ft 1 in overall with its spars. A centerboard takes draft from 3 ft 8 in down to 1 ft 5 in, and the 237 sq ft rig sets on a tabernacle mast for trailering. Beam is 7 ft 8 in, displacement 2,300 lb and ballast 850 lb, with a 10 hp outboard. Below are a forward double, settee berths, galley, wood stove and portable head.
Study and construction plans are sold. A small cabin sailboat with ballast, centerboard and rig is best tackled with some experience. As a rule of thumb, budget 1,000 to 1,800 hours. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Lichen 20 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
