The Mini Transat class came from the frankly mad idea of racing a 6.50 m boat single-handed across the Atlantic, under rules that fix little beyond the length and leave the sail plan free. The idea took, the class grew, and the boats became steadily more extreme and more technical. What is striking is their record: they get across, and keep getting across, through severe weather.
The racing Minuetto, 6.50 m to the Mini Transat rules, chine hulled in plywood. The class caps little beyond length, so the freedom in the rule is most of what makes these boats what they are.
